A hair iron or hair tongs is a tool used to change the arrangement of the hair using heat. They're shaped depending on their purpose and fall under 3 categories: Curling irons to curl hair, straightening irons to straighten hair, and crimping irons to crimp (make wavy) hair. h4. Types * A [[curling iron]] or curling tongs is a device with a cylindrical or cone shaped heating iron head for wrapping hair around. Commonly there is a rounded clamp to assist in keeping the hair against the iron head. Ex: post #5246576 * A [[straightening iron]], commonly called a straightener or flat iron, is frequently a tong shaped device with two flat heating plates at the ends. Hair is put between the plates to straighten it. Ex: post #5311936 * A crimping iron may look like a straightening iron but with wavy heating plates or it may appear similar to a curling iron but with multiple iron heads with alternating iron heads pushing against the hair in opposite directions when clamped against the hair to put it into a wavy pattern.
