A [[science fiction]] and [[cyberpunk]] manga series created by [[Kishiro Yukito]] in 1990. Known in Japan as [b][i]Gunnm[/i][/b] and in the west as [b][i]Battle Angel Alita[/i][/b]. The series tells the story of Gally ([[Alita]]), an amnesiac female [[cyborg]] found by cybermedic expert [[Ido Daisuke]], who repaired her body and also gave her her name. The rebuilt Gally soon discovers that she possesses instinctive knowledge of the legendary martial art Panzer Kunst. Gally must learn to navigate, exist, and fight in the Scrapyard, whose inhabitants themselves live in the shadow of the tantalizingly close floating city, Salem. Her journeys take Gally across the Scrapyard and surrounding areas, as she tries to recall more of her past. The manga was later made into a 2019 live action movie called [[Alita: Battle Angel]]. h4.
