Despite the defined roles for women and men, Asami was unwilling to do the duties imposed on her like learning archery or medicine. She preferred to focus on sword fighting training and hunting which brought her the most excitement. On one day, she went to one of her hiding places away from the village, where she collected various items left behind by dead warriors like armor, swords, or scrolls. However, she unexpectedly came across a wanderer whom she managed to persuade to brush up on her swordsmanship skills. After a long day of training, she decided to return to the village, however, she saw that it had been attacked, with the result that most of the inhabitants were killed and those who had some value were turned into slaves. After this event, Asami set out on a journey to rescue some of the survivors from her village, but to no avail.
