Class 3-Z is the name of an alternate universe of gintama in which gintoki is a teacher named Ginpachi who teaches the high school class of 3-z, while most other characters are students.

These scenes normally appear in after-credits segments or shorts called Oshiete, Ginpachi-Sensei/please teach us, Ginpachi-Sensei in which the characters address fan mail, break the fourth wall, or do random activities to fill airtime.

Female characters wear typical blue and red serafuku while the boys wear gakuran. Gintoki himself wears glasses and smokes a cigarette he claims is a lollipop.

Endings 4 and 16 of the anime are dedicated to showing the cast as their class 3-z egos. A light novel spin-off series was released in 2006.

An anime series based off the light novel was announced march 19, 2023
