Wiki History Listing

V2 A species of blue Gem lifeform from Steven Universe. The Lapis who is a recurring secondary character on the show has no given name, and there exists no tag to distinguish her from the other two Lapis Lazulis ([[Nice_Lapis]] and [[Mean_Lapis]]). Like all gems of her type, she can control water, being capable of lifting all of Earth's oceans at once. She has a pessimistic personality.

Prior to the events of the series, she was confined in a mirror and trapped there for thousands of years. When Steven shows the mirror to the Crystal Gems rebel team, they try to take it away from him, thinking the gem trapped inside is dangerous, but he runs away and frees her. She flies away to the Gem Homeworld, grateful to Steven and resentful toward the others.

On Homeworld, Lapis is questioned about the Crystal Gems, and the Homeworld loyalists Peridot and Jasper drag her back to Earth on their mission. When the mission goes awry, Jasper demands that Lapis form a [[fusion]] with her to overpower the Crystal Gems, but once they combine into Malachite, Lapis takes control of their fused body and drags them to the bottom of the ocean.

Steven eventually gets a subconscious transmission from the mind of Lapis, who is shackled to Jasper with chains representing their struggle over mental control of Malachite. Lapis eventually loses and Jasper takes control of the fusion, who is then defeated by the fusion of the Crystal Gems, and she is separated from Jasper. The Crystal Gems take her home, where she re-encounters Peridot, who has defected to the side of Earth. Having defied Jasper, Lapis is now an enemy of Homeworld as well. She is initially spiteful toward Peridot, who she is forced to live with, but gradually warms up to her.

Jasper eventually tracks down Lapis. However, it turns out that both of them miss being fused together - Lapis misses taking her bitterness out on Jasper, and Jasper misses the power. Nonetheless, Lapis declines.

In Steven Universe Future, Lapis meets two other members of her Gem type who are using their powers to terraform an inhabited world, and tries to offer them something less destructive to do with their lives. One Lapis cooperates and eventually moves to Earth, while one does not. For labeling purposes, Rule 34 calls them Nice Lapis and Mean Lapis.
