(January 31, 1543 – June 1, 1616) Historical figure. Born as Matsudaira Takechiyo. Raised as the political hostage of [[Imagawa Yoshimoto (Oda Nobuna no Yabou)|]], he broke off relations after Yoshimoto's death in Okehazama. Renamed himself to Matsudaira Motonobu, then Matsudaira Motoyasu, then assumed the Tokugawa Ieyasu name in 1567. Co-led the Oda-Tokugawa army in the Battle of Anegawa against the Azai-Asakura army alongside [[Oda Nobunaga]]. Later fought against [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi]] at Komaki and Nagakute (outskirts of [[Nagoya]]) in 1584 before making peace with Hideyoshi. After Hideyoshi's death, he led the Eastern Army in the Battle of Sekigahara against the (pro-Toyotomi) Western Army led by [[Ishida Mitsunari]] in 1600. Became shogun in 1603, and founded the Tokugawa Shogunate which ruled Japan until 1868. Fictional depictions of Ishida Mitsunari are tagged separately. h4.
