V1 The Dragunov sniper rifle (formally Russian: Снайперская винтовка Драгунова, Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova (SVD), literally "Dragunov's sniper rifle"), is a [[Soviet]] designated marksman rifle (DMR) designed in 1963.

Chambered in 7.62x54mmR (also used in the Mosin Nagant and PKM), frequently used during the local conflicts during the Cold War.

The Dragunov is the first "sniper" rifle (unlike Western militaries, Soviet doctrine made no distinction between snipers and designated marksmen) that was purpose-built, rather than adapted from an infantry or hunting rifle.

Durable, sturdy, simple and reliable. It is issued with a PSO-1 quick-detach telescopic sight. Not to be confused with Romanian [[PSL Romak|PSL]] or Chinese modifications.
