It is played perpendicular to a person's lips through a mouthpiece called a [i]fipple[/i] or [i]block[/i]. It has a slightly tapering body with eight finger holes and can come in a variety of colors. The name comes from one of the meanings of the word [i]record[/i], which is "to practice a piece of music."
