V1 A dirndl is a type of traditional dress worn in Bavaria, Liechtenstein, Austria and South Tyrol, based on the historical costume of Alpine peasants. An iconic outfit for female [[beer]] [[waitress|servers]] during [[Oktoberfest]].

A dirndl consists of a [[bodice]] and [[skirt]] or a [[pinafore dress]], a low-cut [[blouse]] with [[puffy short sleeves]], and a [[waist apron]].

Of note: the position of the [[apron]] [[bow]] can indicate a woman's marital status:
