A country located on the titular island of Taiwan in East Asia. As a country, it was established by [[Chiang Kai-Shek]] and various [[Kuomintang]]-affiliated Chinese after the Republic of China was [[Chinese civil war|defeated]] by [[Mao Zedong]]'s [[china|Communist China]] and evacuated to the island, the state still serving as the continuity of the Republic of China and still using the same full name as when the state ruled mainland China. The political status of Taiwan is complex, with the People's Republic of China claiming sovereignty over the island under the One-China Policy and refusing diplomatic relations with any country that officially recognizes Taiwan. Taiwan itself, meanwhile, is politically divided between the current ruling "Pan-Green Coalition" lead by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which seeks to relinquish the claim on mainland China and officially become an independent country as Taiwan, and the "Pan-Blue Coalition" lead by the Kuomintang Party, which maintains its claim as the sole and legitimate government of the entirety of China.
