[b]Sonic Mania[/b] (ソニックマニア [i]Sonikku Mania[/i]) is a side-scrolling platformer video game developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon and PagodaWest Games. It was published by [[Sega]] and released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The game acts as a celebration of the Sonic series' 25th anniversary, and follows [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]], [[Tails (Sonic)|Tails]], [[Knuckles the Echidna|Knuckles]] as they try to keep [[Dr. Eggman]] and the Hard Boiled Heavies from harnessing a mysterious new energy source, the Phantom Ruby. The story of the game also ties with [[Sonic Forces]], released on the same year. A definitive version of the game titled [b]Sonic Mania Plus[/b] was released on 17 July 2018, which features the return of [[Mighty the Armadillo]] and [[Ray the Flying Squirrel]] as playable characters, as well as a 4-player Competition Mode and Encore Mode. h4.
