The FAMAS (Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne, or "Assault Rifle of the Weapon Factory of Saint-Étienne") is a French-designed 5.56x45mm delayed-blowback [[assault rifle]], developed between 1967–1971 by Paul Tellie at MAS (now known as Nexter). It is most notable for its [[bullpup|bullpup]] configuration and long carrying handle, which give it a distinctive shape and its nickname "le Clairon" (French for "the Bugle"). h4.
