Solid body [[electric guitar]] created and manufactured by American [[instrument]] maker [[Fender]] in 1964 as a major redesign of their student models, the Musicmaster and Duo-Sonic with the revised versions having the "II" suffix. The Mustang obtained relatively moderate success as a student guitar until it's discontinuation in 1982. Since 1990, in parallel with its reissue, it became exponentially popular and became a cult guitar in the 90's Grunge scene due to its ease of modding and low cost, with [[Nirvana (band)|Nirvana]]'s [[Kurt Cobain]] being the most famous player, having used a humbucker version. After its reissue, it also acquired a cult following in Japan, being a frequent guitar used in both J-Pop and J-Rock, in Japanese animation, [[Nakano Azusa]] from [[K-On!]] is the most prominent player. Unique visual traits include a round skewed body design, tilted double single-coil pickups on standard models, floating bridge, round pickguard and a chrome control plate.
