Despite seemingly having a dream team behind the game with [[Sonic (series)|]] creator Yuji Naka helming the project as director, [[Ooshima Naoto]] providing original character designs, and Square Enix's trademark CGI cutscene quality, the game was largely criticized upon release due to it's questionably simple gameplay, useless powerups, and subpar level design.
