A racing game franchise by [[Namco]], renowned for it's signature drifting mechanics as well as [[Nagase Reiko]], the franchise's official race queen. The series is currently in dormance, the last home console release (not counting [i]Unbounded[/i], effectively a spinoff of the series, in 2012) being in 2006 ([i]Ridge Racer 7[/i], a PS3 launch title) and the last portable console release being [i]Ridge Racer[/i] for the [[Playstation Vita]] in 2011-2012, universally panned for lacking content (only 3 stock tracks, the rest being DLC) and for it's baffling design choices. There was a rumor of a [[Nintendo Switch]] exclusive Ridge Racer game that was presumably the 8th main installment for the series, but was cancelled as of 2019.
