V1 Formally the United States Rifle, Caliber .30-06, Model 1903, The "Springfield" is an American 5-round magazine fed, 30 caliber bolt-action service repeating [[rifle]] built on the Mauser action and chambered in .30-06, and was used primarily during the first half of the 20th century.

Named after the national armory where it was designed and made, the Springfield started its service life in 1903 and ended its official service in 1974. During that time it was used as a primary small arm of the American army (1903-1940) primary small arm of the US Marine Corps (1903-1943), Sniper's rifle (1917-1984) and drill rifle (1903-present) in addition to being a popular hunting and general target rifle on the American surplus firearms market.
