The Mini-14 is a .223/5.56 semi-auto rifle produced by Sturm, Ruger and Co. It was designed as a light weight, rugged and reliable varmint rifle for farmers and ranchers. It uses a Garand-style action with a short stroke, fixed piston, moving cylinder gas system. As the name suggests, it was envisioned as miniature version of the M-14. The Mini-14 gained notoriety for reliability and mediocre accuracy, Ruger eventually overhauled the design and production line to address the accuracy problems. Other similar models are the Mini-30, firing the 7.62x39mm cartridge, and the Mini-6.8, firing the 6.8SPC. h4. See Also * [[M1 Garand]] * [[M14]] h4.
