V1 A backronym for "Field-on Enemy" in Japanese, or "Formido Oppugnatura Exsequens" in the English-speaking versions for pretentious Latin bonus to a stupid name.

F.O.E.s are functionally mini-bosses and boss battles in [[Sekaiju no Meikyuu]], or Etrian Odyssey in English release, and are the iconic enemies of the game. They travel in set patterns on the map instead of being random encounters, but respawn every 3 game days. They can drop rare items, but otherwise give far less money and experience for the amount of trouble they cause than normal enemies do.

In battle they have multiple appearances, but when exploring the labyrinth, they appear as an orange ball, often portrayed like an orange [[Kedama (touhou)|]] of Touhou fame because of overlapping fan artists. This also produced the alternate backronym "Fuzzy Orange Enemy".

Made infamous by Iosys's F.O.E. song, "えふおーいーとのそうぐう (F.O.E. to no Souguu)" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUs2_7SYAI8
